BitePal — Privacy Policy

BitePal ("we", "us") is a calorie and fitness tracking app. This policy explains what we
collect, why, and your choices. We keep data collection to what the app needs to work.
Information we collect
- Account — when you use Sign in with Apple, we receive an anonymized
user identifier and, only if you choose to share it, your name and email.
- Profile & goals — sex, date of birth, height, weight, activity level,
goal weight, dietary preferences, and country, used to calculate your plan.
- Activity you log — foods, water, weigh-ins, recipes, and workouts.
- Photos — meal and fridge/pantry photos you choose to capture or upload
for AI calorie estimation and recipe suggestions.
- Apple Health (HealthKit) — only with your permission, we read your steps,
active energy, and workouts, and may write workouts you log in BitePal to Health. Health data
is used only to provide app features and is never used for advertising or sold.
- Purchases — subscriptions are handled by Apple; we receive whether your
subscription is active, not your payment details.
How we use your information
- To calculate your calorie/macro targets and track progress.
- To estimate calories from photos and generate recipes.
- To sync your data across your devices and secure your account.
Service providers we share data with
- Supabase — hosting, authentication, database, and photo storage
(servers in the EU).
- Anthropic — when you use AI features, the relevant meal/fridge photo and
food details are sent to Anthropic's API to generate an estimate or recipe. They process
it to return a result and do not use it to train models.
- Open Food Facts — food-search text you enter is sent to look up nutrition.
- Apple — Sign in with Apple and subscription processing (StoreKit).
We do not sell your personal data or use it for third-party advertising.
Data retention & deletion
We keep your data while your account is active. You can delete your account and associated data
at any time from within the app, or by contacting us at the address below.
Security
Data is stored with access controls so each user can only access their own records, and is
transmitted over encrypted connections.
Children
BitePal is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country), and we do not
knowingly collect their data.
Changes
We may update this policy; material changes will be reflected by the date above.
